How To: Make Your Own Champagne Hamper
Where champagne is concerned, the list of accompanying ingredients that might be used to fill a hamper is almost endless. Owing to its star attraction and easy-going nature, champagne will go well with a number of things; including some that, at first inspection, might seem utterly inappropriate, as well as others which have been traditionally synonymous with champagne for years.
1) Cheese: a sure-fire winner, cheese is a long-standing classic. Again, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination – try nutty Edam, Gouda, Cheddar or Brie. You could also do worse than add some Foie gras into the mix – loved by the French for centuries, champagne, with its bubbly elegance, is perfectly matched to the Foie gras’ duck / goose liver texture.
2) Strawberries: this should go without saying. Both dipped in chocolate or left natural with a dusting of sugar.
3) Sushi: when it comes to integrating raw fish and champagne into a meal, the Japanese are masters, having been dining with Sake and Beer for hundreds of years. Some experts have speculated that the reason for this seemingly perfect match is the high yeast content found in both champagne and soy sauce.
